TRAINING CENTERS

NEW EPISODE

Golden Dome has selected New Episode Training Center as one of its farms to break and train their young horses because of their documented ability to prepare horses for competition at the highest levels of racing.

New Episode Training Center was established in September 1996 by Tony Everard on a 40 acre tract in Ocala, Florida, the mecca for the breaking and training of racehorses in the United States. The warm winter climate and plentiful supply of experienced horsemen permits late yearlings/young two year olds to learn their lessons early and well.

New Episode boasts a 5/8-mile training track with excellent drainage and a chute which permits straight breezing from the gate.

Tony and his wife, Elizabeth, are supported by a staff of up to 40 people including ten riders to assist in care and development of approximately 100 young horses each season. Some 20% of these fledgling racehorses will find their way to 2 year old sales and be actively sought by buyers of quality bloodstock. The rest of the youngsters are being developed by private owners like Golden Dome for their racing stable.

Under Tony's watchful eye, many notable horses have been prepared for their careers. Funny Cide, 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, is probably the best known graduate (Class of 2002) of New Episode, but the list includes several other prominent trainees like: Tejano Run, Dr. Valeri, Fourstarallstar and Fourstardave. It's hoped that a Golden Dome graduate will soon be counted among these.

INDIAN PRAIRIE RANCH

The Harris' of Golden Dome Stable like working with experienced professionals and Clyde and Jean Rice of Indian Prairie Ranch are just that. Clyde Rice is a third-generation horse trainer with over forty years in the thoroughbred business. As Clyde is fond of saying, "we know so much because we learned from our mistakes."

The Rice’s purchased the 188 acre Indian Prairie Ranch in 1986. The initial breaking and early training is performed in round pens and then moves to a one-half mile track with two chutes. When not training, the young horses are turned out daily to graze in the Florida sun where they can grow and develop in a natural setting.

Down from a high of 100 horses per season, the Rice's still give about 40-50 horses their first lessons in racing each year. Approximately half of these will find their way to two-year old sales; the rest are readied to race for their private owners (like Golden Dome Stable) by summer, if warranted.

Among the numerous horses which have graduated from the Indian Prairie program are: Brave Raj, Stormy Blues, Ready Jet Go, Tiltalating, Miss Iron Smoke, Tenski, Family Style, and Farma Way who all won or placed as two-year-olds in Grade I races.

Of course, Golden Dome Stable hopes that one of their NJ-bred graduates from Indian Prairie Ranch will eventually become a Grade I winner. McSwoosh and Northern Tales are in the class of 2004. Watch for them this summer and fall at Monmouth Park, the Meadowlands, and other tracks nearby!
