OUR THOROUGHBREDS

YEARLINGS

Last year's foal crop is this year's group of yearlings. The four fillies and one colt are all New Jersey breds nominated to the NJ Futurity and, like adolescents, they are growing in spurts so don't project too far ahead based on what you see now.

The lone colt by Vicar out of D'Accordress was orphaned soon after birth and was raised by a nurse mare until weaned last fall. He loves to play "halter tag" and "catch me if you can" with the other colts and looks to be developing and interacting well despite his unfortunate beginning. Although slender at this stage, he has good conformation and a regal presence about him.

The yearling fillies have already received compliments from several experienced consignors and trainers. Probably the most outstanding from a conformational point of view is Tres Norte's Storm Boot filly but the others are not far behind. The Wild Rush – Heckuva Time filly is the oldest of the group and also the furthest along in her development. It appears in this filly that Heckuva Time has contributed some bone and bulk to the Wild Rush frame. This combination of attributes gives her the appearance that she will probably be a competitive racehorse. Torropy's filly by the first year sire, El Corredor, is also nicely put together and has good muscularity. Both fillies (Heckuva Time and Torropy) are vying to be the dominant one in the field, a trait which they both obviously inherited from their dams. Audacity's filly by Real Quiet is the youngest of the group, somewhat light-framed like her sire, but also extremely quick and agile (she loves to jump fences). Like her older sister (Serene Valor), we feel confident that she will grow and fill out a little later than the other yearlings.

Below we present mid-August photographs of the 2004 yearlings. We also hope to have Head-on photos and links to their individual pedigrees shortly. All of the above is currently available in our brochure for this year's partnership offering.

COLT by VICAR - D'ACCORDRESS (dec.'d)
by D'ACCORD

This colt out of D'Accordress represents the second crop by Vicar, the winner of the G1 Fountain of Youth and the G1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream early in his 3-year old year. Except for the chestnut coat, the young colt looks very much like his father. This year, when his first crop begins to race, will tell whether Vicar has also passed on his talent to his offspring. Update on Vicar: Vicarage, a 2yo son of Vicar, will be running in this year's G3 Sapling Stakes at Monmouth Park.

FILLY by STORM BOOT - TRES NORTE
by NORTHERN BABY

Storm Boot, a son of the sire of sires, Storm Cat, is consistently among the top stallions in earnings by offspring. So far through August of  2004, Storm Boot ranks 36th with earnings in excess of $2.4M. He adds substance and speed to the yearling filly out of Tres Norte, who would be expected to contribute the scope and the stamina. Only time will tell whether these projections will be fulfilled.

FILLY by EL CORREDOR - TORROPY
by TORRENTIAL

This filly out of Torropy is from the first crop sired by El Corredor. His foals, like this one, are quite good-looking and his first crop of yearlings are commanding high prices at the yearling auctions. El Corredor won the G1 Cigar Mile at three and numerous other graded stakes. He possessed good tactical speed and could extend it to a route of ground. It's hoped that having this kind of speed matched with the stamina of Torropy should produce a good combination of traits for this yearling filly.

FILLY by REAL QUIET - AUDACITY
by CHIEF'S CROWN

Real Quiet won the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and just missed in the Belmont Stakes. This classic champion earned over $3.2M and his second crop of 2yos are just beginning to compete this year. Many of his foals are slight of frame at two and take time to develop. With this filly out of Audacity we think we will need to be patient as she matures and hope that the best is yet to come. Update: As you can see this yearling filly has filled out nicely despite her late foal date and this has been quite encouraging.

FILLY by WILD RUSH (Jp) - HECKUVA TIME
by GILDED TIME

Although Wild Rush was sold and now stands in Japan, he has become one of the leading sires in the United States. Through August of 2004, Wild Rush ranks fourth in offspring earnings among third crop sires behind only Elusive Quality (sire of Smarty Jones), Grand Slam, and Tale of the Cat with earnings in excess of $3.2M. His yearling filly out of Heckuva Time strongly resembles his 3yo colt, Quintons Gold Rush, who won the Lexington Stakes and went on to run in the KY Derby this year.
